The hidden cost on swaps is the isolation valve. Quarter-turn ball valves seize after 5–10 years of disuse. When the homeowner says "the tap's there, just plumb it in" and the valve will not close on the day, you are now cutting pipework. Can I connect a washing machine to the hot supply?

Most modern UK domestic machines are cold-fill only (one hose). Some Bosch, Miele and AEG models are hot-and-cold fill, taking advantage of cheaper cylinder heating.
