Skim system (most UK domestic ceilings and walls):

A skim system applies a 2–3 mm plaster finish (Thistle Multi-Finish or equivalent) across the entire board face. Joints, screw heads and corners are scrimmed first; then the whole face receives skim. Self-adhesive fibreglass scrim is the standard — it goes on dry, sits flush against the board, and the skim covers it. Paper tape is rarely used in skim systems because it adds thickness that skim must absorb.

Internal Corners — The Most Common Failure

Can I skim plasterboard without scrim?

Is paper tape stronger than self-adhesive mesh?

Do I need scrim on a small repair patch?
